Inspired Children in Dudhauli

Children in Dudhauli walk in a line after school with Moving Mountain School Bags.

It is now just 6 weeks since we boarded a local bus in Chabahil, Kathmandu and headed East to the childhood home of our founder and president Rewati Gurung. The journey took some 11 hours starting with the beautiful Banepa Bardibas Highway and ending with the soft sandy roads on the edge of the Terai.

Moving Mountain Nepal has donated school bags to remote communities affected by the earthquakes of 2015. The journeys were always unpredictable, with unmade roads or no roads at all, requiring our team of volunteers and local communities to carry the bags up to the schools.

Because of the difficulties in getting to these places we rarely have the opportunity to follow up on our work, leaving the teachers to inspire the children with their new materials. But this time Rewati’s sister Jyotika who lives next door to the school went out and captured these photographs of the children in full swing with their new found materials.

Wonderful creativity inspired by new exercise books and coloured pencils.

Most of these children had never seen a coloured pencil before Moving Mountain Nepal came to Sindhuli. Suddenly their creativity blossomed!

Everything from flowers and trees, birds and stars, houses and flags.

In the coming weeks MMN will be stocking up with school bags, coloured pencils, erasers, sharpeners, note books and all kinds of goodies to meet children in the earth quake affected areas around Nepal. The exhibition called ’Treasure of Nepal’  in Finland curated by our fundraiser, Gary Wornell raised enough donations from visitors to provide hundreds of school bags for many schools.

Classroom creativity parachuting rainbows and happiness!
